In 1980, Ray Long approached Ken Weaver and Roy Packard with the idea of forming a Color Guard Unit. In that year Harvey Culler was Potentate. Organizational plans evolved quickly and the 1981 Mid-Atlantic Parade in Virginia Beach was the first official event for the new unit. Members participating were: K. Waver, R. Charles, D.
Holland, J. Morrison, and L. Packard, Sr., W. Woomer. M. Wagner and A. Schrader. A fourth place tie was certainly a respectable finish!
On December 5, 1981, the Color Guard By-Laws were written, and on April 18, 1983, new uniforms were purchased. By then, the following members had been added to the roster: M. Brubaker, H. Burket, D. Chilcote, P. Frye, D. Gower, D. Hatch, A. Merschlitz, W. Meyers, L. Plunkett, H. Rudolph, D. Shoemaker and L. Smith.
Through the years the following members have served as Captain: K. Weaver,(198l-85); D. Chilcote (1986-87); L. Smith (19S8-89); D. Holland (1990-91); M. Bruhaker (1992-93); B. Loy (1994-95); A. Schrader (1996-97): and J. Richardson (1 998-present).
Since 1998, the Jaffa Color Guard has enjoyed consecutive 1st Place trophies from the MASA Parade in Virginia Beach.
