In 1982, several members from the Indiana Shrine Club began talking about forming a unit. After some discussion, they decided to start a Mini Corvette Unit. Paul J. Simpson ordered a car from Besco Manufacturing Co., in Batesville, Arkansas, and had it shipped to his home. Upon seeing the cars and after further discussion, the members ordered 22 more cars. When the cars were ready for deliver, Bob Head took a tractor/trailer to Arkansas and brought them to Clymer. Two of the original cars were purchased by Dale W.

Woomer to help get the Unit started. There have been 5 more cars purchased and 2 tractor/trailers for a lead and rear unit for Shrine and MASA parades, for a total of 30 units.

The Lil “Vette Unit was formed in 1982 and became a Parade Unit of Jaffa Shrine on February 15, 1983, under the direction of Illustrious Potentate Dale W. Woomer. The Officers for 1983 were: Paul J. Simpson, President; Roger T. Cramer, Vice President; Robert G. Lenhardt, Secretary/Treasurer; Directors: Gene C. Auen, Max Harwick and G. Max Steele.

The Lil “Vette Unit had 29 active members. The meetings were held the fourth Friday of every month at the Masonic Lodge in Indiana. All cars are owned and maintained by each member. The members live throughout Indiana, Armstrong, Westmoreland and Cambria Counties.

The Unit is still very active, with members parading in surrounding areas, Jaffa Shrine parades, and Mid-Atlantic Association parades. The members are very active during the Circus, Sports Show and all other activities of the Jaffa Shrine.
